About Us

Primarily a survey, design and engineering consultancy company within the electrical distribution business.

With its roots and office in the Midlands region, giving easy access to the motorway network to be able to provide the required expertise through the whole of the UK.

Utility & Transmission Survey Solutions was formed in 2013 to provide expertise advice and design solutions to the local distribution network operators on their aging overhead line network systems through innovative use of modern software and survey equipment. We provide a complete package from initial concept to build plans through to actual project management during the build if required.

Our People

Profile - Richard Shepherd

Picture of Richard Shepherd

26 years of experience in the Electricity Distribution Industry including 15 years’ experience of working on 33Kv, 132Kv pole and tower, LV and 11Kv pole networks. At least 6 of these years, specialising in the EHV 132Kv overhead tower network. Elements of this work involved general maintenance, re-stringing, replacing conductors, and rebuilding overhead lines on all voltages from LV to 132Kv on pole and tower structures whilst working as part of a team.

Due to this experience of working on all levels of the electrical network I have practical and foundation knowledge of overhead electrical networks including overhead line patrols and site surveys for the construction of new build overhead lines and working knowledge of the distribution and transmission networks with understanding of distribution network rules. This experience also provided standard tower maintenance including insulator changing, steel work assessments linking to detailed structural surveys/condition analysis of towers, replacing suspension/tension sets, dropping/repairing conductor earth wire damage, re-sagging and trimming conductor and spacer changing programmes.

Subsequently I have experience in Project Management/Contract Delivery Management experience on 132Kv projects, capital investment and arboriculture contracts, giving knowledge of contract lifecycles, financial and commercial awareness, and relevant policies and procedures affecting delivery of programmes whilst ensuring network safety.
